Dear Valued Partners (posted Monday, May 21, 2018 started typing at 6:30am and posted at 7:25am and updated at 8:13am)

Unfortunately our supplier was not able to completely restore our services last night and we remain without email or web sites. We are currently working with a number of clients to set-up temporary web sites and get their email flowing again.

I was informed by Dynamic Web Hosting that they are still working on the web sites and our emails and they will be online sometime in the next two days we hope.

We are moving more domains off the Dynamic Servers either on a temporary or permanent basis this morning so emails will begin flowing again. Missed emails will hopefully appear once the server at Dynamic is back online and we can switch your service back there. Please contact us if you wish to have email today (Monday, May 21, 2018) as we assume Dynamic will not have our server up today, though we remain hopeful that they will come back online very soon.

If you have any concerns or wish to have further updates, please contact Alan Joyce at 902-497-6599 by voice or by text.

Sincerely,

Alan Joyce, owner WHATASITE.COM

Dear Valued Partners (posted Sunday, May 20, 2018 11:00pm)

Garth Wardle, the new CEO of Dynamic Web Hosting, called this evening to discuss the issues surrounding this crash.

Garth believes the last crash he has witnessed was in 2008 and we both agreed we have never seen a crash like this is our lifetimes in this business.

That stated, Dynamic Web Hosting had a duty to prepare for a potential disaster and should have had systems in place for a potential crash. That is the service we all pay for and in this regard something went terribly wrong. We are not sure what yet, but they have already have a separate team working on a post-mortem.

As of 11pm, Sunday, May 20th, they have three Level 3 teams working on the server and one team dedicated just to the WHATASITE.COM container. The hope is they will resolve the remaining issues tonight. Let's hope we all wake up to the pinging sound of arriving emails in the morning.

We thank Garth Wardle for calling us to clarify the situation and to help assuage our growing concern that we would not see a positive resolution to this crash.

If you have any concerns or wish to have further updates, please contact Alan Joyce at 902-497-6599 by voice or by text.

Sincerely,

Alan Joyce, owner WHATASITE.COM

Dear Valued Partners (posted Sunday, May 20, 2018 4:35pm)

Faraz, with Dynamic Web Hosting, has informed us that they are currently rebuilding the system and the sites wil be "up in their time."

At this point Faraz assures us that it will be soon, but when that is we are not sure.

We have already moved several more domains over to another supplier so their sites are back online with rudimentary information and to allow for the delivery of email. This option is open to all, so please contact Alan at WHATASITE.COM to discuss having your site online if it is imperative you are online today. If you have any concerns or wish to have further updates, please contact Alan Joyce at 902-497-6599 by voice or by text.

Sincerely,

Alan Joyce, owner WHATASITE.COM

Dear Valued Partners (posted Sunday, May 20, 2018 12:05pm)

Our supplier has once again missed an estimated time of noon and we are waiting once again for their solution.

Faraz, with Dynamic Web Hosting, has informed us that they are having management discussions now and further decisions will be made after 9am PST, which is 1pm AST.

At this point we have no new information when the sites may come online, but Faraz assures us that it will be soon.

We have already moved several domains over to another supplier so their sites are back online with rudimentary information and so they can start to receive email. This option is open to all, so please contact Alan at WHATASITE.COM to discuss having your site online if it is imperative you are online today. Dear Valued Partners (posted Sunday, May 20, 2018 6:30am)

It was looking very promising to have the sites back up and running yesterday, yet that clearly did not happen.

This morning our supplier informs us they are working with two of their software suppliers in an attempt to fix the issues with our container that serves up web pages and handles email on their computers.

Those two companies are Plesk and Virtuozzo. These two companies provide our hosting supplier with the main software that operate our servers.

Plesk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plesk
Virtuozzo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtuozzo_(company)

Every effort is being made to get these sites back online today (Sunday, May 20, 2018).

Dear Valued Partners (posted Saturday, May 19, 2018)

On the morning of Wednesday May 16th our shared Halifax server began slowing down and became impossibly slow close to noon that day.

Later in the day we discovered that close to half the domains managed by WHATASITE.COM went offline. Since we share the hardware with other web sites, many other Nova Scotia based companies doing business directly with our supplier lost their internet service.

First attempts to rectify the situation were taken on Wednesday to fix this machine. By the next day a decision was taken to replace the hardware. During this time the old hardware remained online and occasionally web traffic would be accepted and some emails were delivered.

Around 36 hours ago our supplier made the decision to shut-down the old server to dedicate it to supplying the files to create the new and better server.

All of our domains were suppose to come online by 4pm yesterday (Friday May 18th) and that did not happen as planned. According to our supplier, by 3am Saturday May 19th, 95% of the server is back online. However, WHATASITE.COM's clients are not part of the 95%.

We are informed that teams of technical staff are working on the issue and every effort is being made to have the sites back online today (Saturday, May 19, 2018).

If you have any concerns or wish to have further updates, please contact Alan Joyce at 902-497-6599 by voice or by text. As of this hour, email is now working for our own site, WHATASITE.COM, as we moved our domain to another supplier about 3 hours ago.

Sincerely,

Alan Joyce, owner WHATASITE.COM
